This is general information about US copyright law, not legal advice. For a complicated case, or a site that ignores your notices, talk to a lawyer.
The DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) gives you a simple, official way to get your content taken down. Websites based in the US, and many others, follow it, because responding properly to notices protects them from being held responsible for what users upload.
What a valid notice must include
According to the U.S. Copyright Office, a takedown notice should include all six of these:
- Your signature, physical or electronic (typing your full name usually works for email)
- What your original work is: for example, "my live cam show broadcast on [site] on [date]"
- Where the copy is: the exact links, so the site can find it
- Your contact details: email address, and ideally a postal address and phone number
- A good-faith statement that the use isn't authorized by you, your agent or the law
- An accuracy statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you're the owner or authorized to act for the owner
Miss one and the site can ignore the notice, so use the checklist every time.
Where to send it
- Look for the site's DMCA or copyright page, often linked in the footer. It lists the "designated agent" and how to reach them, sometimes with a form.
- No DMCA page? Try the site's abuse or legal email address.
- Search results: search engines have their own removal request forms for links to infringing content.

Subject: DMCA Takedown Notice
To the designated agent of [WEBSITE NAME],
I am the copyright owner of the work described below, and I request that you remove or disable access to the infringing material listed.
1. Original work: My live cam broadcast, performed and recorded by me on [CAM SITE] on [DATE(S)].
2. Infringing material: The following URLs contain unauthorized copies of my work:
[LINK 1]
[LINK 2]
3. Contact information:
Name: [YOUR NAME OR AUTHORIZED AGENT]
Email: [EMAIL]
Address: [ADDRESS]
Phone: [PHONE]
4. I have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
5. The information in this notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the owner, or authorized to act on behalf of the owner, of the copyright that is allegedly infringed.
Signature: [TYPE YOUR FULL NAME]
Date: [DATE]
Use your private cam email, not a personal one. If you'd rather not use your legal name on notices, a lawyer or a takedown service can send notices as your authorized agent.
What happens next
- The site removes or disables the content. The law asks it to act quickly once it gets a valid notice.
- The uploader is told, and may send a counter-notice if they claim it was a mistake.
- If there's a counter-notice, the site may put the content back after 10 to 14 business days, unless you start a court action. This is where a lawyer helps.
- Copies can reappear. Keep your evidence folder and send a new notice for each new link.

Questions people ask
Do I need a lawyer to send a DMCA notice?
No. Anyone who owns the content, or is authorized to act for the owner, can send one. For complicated cases or sites that ignore notices, a lawyer can help.
How long does a DMCA takedown take?
The law requires the site to act expeditiously once it receives a valid notice, but it doesn't set a fixed number of days.
What is a counter-notice?
If the uploader claims the takedown was a mistake, they can send a counter-notice. The site may restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless you start a court action.
Does DMCA work outside the US?
The DMCA is US law. Many international sites still respond to DMCA notices, and other countries have their own removal processes.
