Best Apps for Cam Models: Streaming, Toys, Lighting and Privacy

Most cam models only need a handful of apps: OBS Studio to stream (free), Lovense's app if you use an interactive toy, your camera or phone's own app for a sharp picture, a lighting app if your lights are smart, a password manager and an authenticator app for privacy, and somewhere to track money for tax. Most of these are free.

The short answer

You don't need a pile of apps to cam. You need a few good ones, and most are free. Here's my kit, grouped by the job each app does.

The apps most cam models use

  • Streaming: OBS Studio (free).
  • Interactive toys: Lovense's own apps.
  • Camera: your webcam's app, or your phone as a webcam.
  • Lighting: the app for your smart lights, if you have them.
  • Privacy: a password manager and an authenticator app.
  • Money: a simple way to track earnings for tax.

Streaming: OBS Studio

Every big cam site lets you go live straight from your browser. That's the easiest way to start, and there's nothing to install.

When you're ready for more, most models move to OBS Studio. It's free and open source, and it lets you set your picture quality, add overlays like your tip menu, switch between scenes, and fix your sound. It looks technical at first, but you set it up once.

Our step-by-step OBS guide for cam models takes you from install to your first stream.

Interactive toys: Lovense's apps

If you use an interactive toy, Lovense's own apps connect it to your cam site so tips make it react. Tip-controlled toys are one of the most popular things on cam sites, so this is worth setting up early.

See our Lovense guide for cam models for which sites support it and how the setup works.

Camera: get the sharpest picture

Lighting: control your lights from your phone

If your lights are smart, use the maker's app. Elgato Control Center runs Elgato key lights, and smart bulbs and LED strips (like Philips Hue or Govee) have their own apps for color and brightness. Saving a "show" setting means your lighting looks the same every night.

Sound: clean audio

Viewers forgive a soft picture faster than bad sound. Two free fixes:

Privacy and security

These matter more than any streaming app:

Our privacy checklist walks you through all of it, and the privacy and safety guide goes deeper.

Money: track it from day one

In most countries you're self-employed, so keep track of every payout and every cost. A simple spreadsheet is enough to start, with a separate bank account for your cam money if you can. Set part of every payout aside for tax.

Our own free tools

We built a few tools for exactly this job, all free and private (nothing you type leaves your browser):

Questions people ask

What app do cam girls use to stream?

Most cam sites let you stream straight from your browser, which is fine to start. Many models move to OBS Studio, a free app that gives you a sharper picture, overlays and more control. Our OBS guide walks you through it.

How do cam models connect their Lovense toy to tips?

With Lovense's own apps, which link your toy to your cam site so tips make it react. Our Lovense guide for cam models shows the setup.

Can I use my phone as a webcam for camming?

Yes. A recent iPhone works as a webcam on a Mac through Apple's Continuity Camera, and recent Android phones can work as a webcam on Windows 11. Third-party apps like Camo do the same on more devices. A phone camera is often sharper than a cheap webcam.

What apps help keep cam models safe?

A password manager, an authenticator app for two-step login, and a separate email address just for camming. If images of you are shared without consent, StopNCII.org helps get them removed from major platforms.
